playground in fall

_DSC1311, originally uploaded by abhishikhaa.

The week I got my camera, I had to go somewhere and click something - I took my daughter to our usual park, put her on a swing and started clicking.
Since I did not have the tripod, there was a noticable shake in most pics also most her photos turned out to be dark due to the evening light as in my excitement I had forgotten to use flash!
I was about to give up on the shots when I noticed this one...
Agreed this is not a postcard worthy shot, but this is my first one with Fall colors in it... :-)

LA Trip

_DSC1113, originally uploaded by abhishikhaa.

This LA trip was a whirlwind.
We had to pick up Anu from Hemet, come back to LA, go to Seaworld and Disneyland... Driver Vijaysingh was good even though it was pouring- he was punctual and always ready to drive, only regret - he wasnt ready to make pit stops for taking shots!

We actually did manage to get out and have some fun! This was the first time Aishi was allowed on any of those rides in Disneyland and she loved it - "Mommy, Again Again Again !!! I want to go again!". Specially the Carousel and rocket rides.
I did manage to get some decent shots of rides and fireworks which I will be posting soon.

Girl in the Shadows

I took this photo inside Mickey's house in Disneyland. There wasnt much room to navigate inside, the distance at which this photo is taken was the other corner of this room/coridor.
Neverthless when I saw this lamp, I knew I had to take in the Lamp and someone sitting there, thankfully Anu volunteered for this shot. There was no time and room for tripods hence this was taken handheld.
Initially I felt I would have to touch up this pic a lot, but looking at it over and over again I started to like the effect of mystery created by the darkness and shadows...
So after removing one corner, where someone had just walked in this was ready for display.

My affair with ...

It was a regular day, I came home from school and saw it in the living room, Mom and aunt were talking business, I held it in my hands and clicked ... ofcourse the prints will come out later but I was fascinated, I could take pictures- at home, in color!
I was 13 and it was a Minolta.

Needless to say we were inseparable till 10th grade when my mom put it away thinking I would never pass boards if that "thing" remained in my hands forever.
It still sits in my mom's cabinet locked away in its timeless glory. Maybe someday I will be able to convince her to part with The treasure :-)

Last month, to rekindle an old affair I bought a DSLR and what a romance it has been!
In the hands of a 13 year old it was a toy but now it is a learning, a fascination, an obsession! I am getting carried away...

The heady feeling of recording a memory as you saw it - and then some! Of creating poetry with a picture, a thousand pixels worth much more than a thousand words. The artist in me calls ...
I dont even qualify as an amateur photographer and my image editing skills are at a big 0 ...
Maybe someday ... :-)

Abhi in Wonderland - Mt Shasta, Crater Lake and McCloud Falls

To go or not to go...
This was the Question in our minds for a long time. Winter is not the best time to make this trip, not unless you are ok with the adverse weather conditions that entails. Not to mention drive up all the way to find out that the roads have been closed off...
But there was a break in the weather just alligned with my shutdown week and it looked like the Gods wanted us to go, Vijay willing ofcourse ;-)...

Well all of us (Vidya's Family and ours) and even Manu who said she is going to sit at home an study (how boring) are glad we went.

This was a trip to fantasyland. Reminded me of a poem I read as a child, about Earth being Bride and Sky The Groom. If ever one needs to find proof, this was one place.
Earth decked up in white like a virgin bride, snow glittering in the sun as if a garland made out of million stars and thrown over her head, Sky extending his arms for an eternal embrace.

Awed and inspired at the same time are the words that can possibly begin to describe the emotions in my heart...

Crater Lake is located in Southern Oregon on the crest of the Cascade Mountain range, 100 miles (160 km) east of the Pacific Ocean. It lies inside a caldera created when the 12,000 foot high Mount Mazama collapsed 7,700 years ago following a large eruption.
If you are visiting Crater Lake check http://www.nps.gov/crla/index.htm for latest information.
You can also check out the webcam on this site to give you a glimpse of road and weather conditions.

Angelic Smile .....

On a cloudy night
she came into my life
oh what a perfect sight
loudly she cried
looking at world for the first time
eyes wide with wonder
fists curled up tight
in my arms felt so light
looked at me with questioning eyes
- who are you and who am I?
Aishi I said are you and mommy am I
there she slept in my arms content, cuddled and quite
My heart skips a beat and head feels light
when I see her angelic smile ...

Baby Steps

"Ok here goes nothing", I thought, and opened up my new Nikon D300s.
I know what some would say, 'if you are learning, dont start with D300s'.
Another had posted - D300s is not a learning camera! Get a D40 and learn your way into D300!

Someone wise once said, "if you put in your heart and soul into something, you will come out a winner no matter what."

So here I am with my D300s learning and shooting and learning to shoot.
My husband is giving me looks which say I have gone crazy, maybe I have, or maybe I always was... and he never knew :-)
